The Salvatorian Call to Mission
Father Francis Jordan was a great traveller, and an expert in languages. He always had a strong zeal for mission, wanting to make Jesus Christ known to all in the world. Today, we Salvatorians continue in the same zeal and in the last 20 years we have established a presence in 18 new countries. Some of the countries we are in are, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique and India.
"Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit"
Matthew 28:19
Salvatorians are sent in mission to announce through our lives and actions the gospel message as contained in the key elements of the charism:
• to make known the Saviour
• to work for the fullness of life or salvation
• to lead others to a conscious awareness of God
• to support one another in our apostolic commitment
• to involve others in the mission
• to emphasize the role of the lay apostle
• to proclaim the message to all people, everywhere and at all times,
and to do this through whatever ways and means the love of Christ inspires
In order to carry out this mission, Salvatorians have provided aid to these countries in all kinds of ways. Not only are we called to proclaim the gospel by word, but also by deed. We have built schools and clinics and we provide healthcare and teaching as well as clean water supplies, public transport and electricity .
Through all the ways of working successfully in the apostolate, the most important and essential means is by giving good example. All can and should be good examples and thus help others to know and love God, because "this is the eternal life that all people should know the only true God, and the One whom He has sent, Jesus Christ” (J 17,3).
